Recruitment vs. Retention

In the February 2007 issue of HR Magazine ( Stephen Miller writes an educational article entitled “Pick and Choose what is outsourced”. The article points out what many Healthcare HR professionals have known for years, “Employee populations are growing increasingly complex”. It is pointed out that 40-73% of large companies outsource HR functions – the challenge becomes what functions do you outsource?
Understanding that RETENTION is the key to remaining staffed in the future – the focus of professionals needs to be concentrated in this area. Many organizations have made retention part of their identity or mission. How much time and energy are you putting into living your core values and creating a culture where people want to stay employed vs. the amount of energy you are putting into to fill those very difficult high level positions within your organization? What is the true cost of these open positions and the fact that your time and talents could be used elsewhere to help drive your organizational mission and improve patient care?
